Psychology Honors Students should meet with the psychology advisors regarding their academic progress and planning (Andrew, Rachael, Lindsay, Sarah and Noël). Each honors student is advised by their Psychology Advisor for college and department requirements, as well as by a member of the Honors College staff for their university requirements.

Professor Karl Healey is the Psychology Department's faculty honors advisor. Honors students are welcome to meet with Professor Healey, for career planning, research engagement, and planning for the optional thesis. To schedule an appointment you should reach out via email (khealey@msu.edu).

For more information on the Psychology Honors Program, see the honors program page.

  • Changing your Major

If you are interested in changing to the major of psychology or changing from one degree to the other (PSY BA vs. BS), you will need to meet with a Psychology Advisor.  Your Advisor will discuss the requirements with you for the PSY degree that you desire and let you know your graduation requirements. You can schedule an appointment with an advisor via the SIS system or look up drop-in advising hours through the advising link on the psychology undergraduate website.

If you are interested in changing out of psychology, there is no need to meet with a member of our team. Schedule an appointment with the major of your interest and they can help make the switch for you. You should go to the specific department's website with all questions or concerns.

  • Role of Advisors
The undergraduate advisor's primary focus is to help undergraduate students with matters pertaining to academic progress and career goals. While students are responsible for understanding University, College, and Department requirements, advisors can provide current information about requirements, options, and procedures. The advisors recommend that students review the requirements with them at least once a semester.  In addition to reading the Psychology website on a regular basis, students should read their e-mails to look for new programs and opportunities within the department through our weekly newsletter. The Psychology advisors want to assist students in preparing a solid undergraduate experience. Make sure to get to know them!
