August 22, 2023

Request for Applications: Graduate Student Justice, Diversity, Equity, or Inclusion Research Grant

With this award, the Department of Psychology seeks to encourage and support the department’s graduate students’ exemplary research on topics that examine or advance justice, diversity, equity, and/or inclusion (JDEI), the JDEI initiative will award one Graduate Student JDEI Research Grant annually.

Research Domain:

The Graduate Student JDEI Research Grant will be awarded to the graduate student submitting the most innovative and promising proposal for research that examines or advances justice, diversity, equity, and/or inclusion. Our understanding of these concepts aligns with the University’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan. Although proposals for research at all stages of graduate training will be considered, we give preference to proposals focused on dissertation or  master’s thesis research. Submissions for qualitative and quantitative research projects are welcome.

Eligibility:

In order for the grant application to be considered, the applicant must be a current graduate student, in good standing, in the Department of Psychology at Michigan State University, and the research must be completed while the student is a graduate student at MSU. Past recipients of this award or its predecessor (i.e., the Graduate Student Multicultural Research Grant) are not eligible to apply.

How to submit:

Grant applications and faculty mentor certifications must be submitted electronically at Grad Award Application by October 13, 2023.  The review of applications and selection of the recipient will be undertaken by the J-DEI Committee’s Award Subcommittee. Submissions will be evaluated on their: 1) relevance to justice, diversity, equity, and/or inclusion (JDEI), 2) potential contribution to JDEI, 3) feasibility, and 4) innovation.

The Award:

The grant award winner will be notified by October 15, 2023 and will receive $500 and a certificate suitable for framing. The grant funds may be used at the discretion of the grant winner for research expenses, conference travel, or other purposes.
