About

Our Mission

The Department of Psychology at Michigan State University is dedicated to advancing psychological science through multidisciplinary research and providing a world-class education for our undergraduate and graduate students. As part of the College of Social Science at a land grant university, our department’s broader mission is to conduct research that transforms lives and inspires leaders on our campus, in Michigan communities, and across the world.

Justice, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

The Department of Psychology is committed to advancing a diverse and intellectually engaging environment. We embrace the differences among our colleagues, and believe that our success as scholars, educators, and citizens relies on learning from the experiences we all bring. We strive to maintain an inclusive, respectful community that fosters collaboration and shared responsibility.

Departmental Research Areas

Research in the Department of Psychology focuses on understanding human beings— from the brain, the mind, and the person to how group and cultural identities, community context, and organizations impact a person. We offer six areas of research for on-campus graduate learning, and online programs in both Work and Organizational Psychology (coming August 2025) and Program Evaluation.
