Undergraduate Award for Outstanding Contributions to Justice, Diversity, Equity, or Inclusion in Psychology 

With this award, the Department of Psychology seeks to recognize the outstanding contributions to the advancement of Justice, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Psychology undertaken by MSU students’ who are psychology majors. 

 

 

 

Award Focus  

This award is given to a current psychology major based on the nominee’s record of service, research, advocacy, and training/teaching that examines or advances justice, diversity, equity, and/or inclusion (JDEI). Although applicants’ overall contributions to JDEI will be considered, reviewers will prioritize contributions that are focused on JDEI within psychology, generally, and within the Department of Psychology at MSU, specifically. 

Eligibility:

Nominees, including self nominees, must be currently-enrolled undergraduate students at Michigan State University with a declared major in psychology. Students who have previously won this award are not eligible to apply.

How to submit: 

Nomination materials (see instructions) must be submitted electronically via this website.

The review of applications and selection of the recipient will be undertaken by the J-DEI Committee's Award Subcommittee. Submissions will be evaluated on the impact of the applicants’ service, teaching or research on justice, diversity, equity, or inclusion, with special emphasis given to impacts within psychology, generally, and within the Department of Psychology at MSU, specifically. 

The Award: 

The award winner will be notified by October 15, 2023 and will receive $500 and a certificate suitable for framing.  

 

Instructions

To be considered, an application:

1) Should include a copy of the nominee’s curriculum vita or resume where contributions to Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JDEI) have been highlighted.

  1. Where possible, contributions that have been made within psychology, generally, and within the department of psychology at MSU, specifically, should be indicated. 
  2. Students can also include a relevancy statement about how their work contributes to JDEI and psychology if work is outside of the psychology department 

2) Should include a 2-3 page nomination or self-nomination letter that:

  1. Describes the manner in which a nominee meets eligibility criteria.
  2. Details the nominee’s record of  service, research, advocacy, and training/teaching that examines or advances justice, diversity, equity, and/or inclusion (JDEI).
    1. Where possible, contributions that have been made within psychology, generally, and within the department of psychology at MSU, specifically, should be highlighted. 

3) Can include up to three supporting materials (e.g., published or in-press manuscripts, conference posters or abstracts, letters of support, teaching or service materials [e.g., tutoring, peer mentoring, club leadership] or outcomes [e.g., media products]).

 

4) Must be submitted electronically as one packet to this website by September 15, 2023.
