RESEARCH
Dr. Culbert’s program of research broadly seeks to elucidate etiologic factors underlying risk for eating disorders and their core symptoms (e.g., binge eating) across the lifespan. Her work has a particular focus on identifying genetic, neurobiological (e.g., adrenal/gonadal hormones), and environmental factors that contribute to sex differences and developmental changes in eating disorder risk. She has pursued a multi-method translational research program of research, using both animal and human models, to tackle these aims. This work aims to advance etiologic models of eating pathology and identify novel prevention and treatment targets that will allow for more fine-tuned, personalized medicine, approaches that can improve outcomes and reduce the suffering associated with these conditions.
