RESEARCH

Substance use during adolescence can have long-lasting effects, increasing the risk of addiction and leading to more severe consequences later in life. Recent data shows that cocaine use has been steadily rising, particularly among adolescents. Previous research in our lab has identified a phenomenon called “incubation of craving,” where adolescent rats exhibit increased drug-seeking behaviors after a longer period of abstinence compared to adult rats.

My research focuses on understanding how cocaine use during adolescence affects the likelihood of relapse, the brain circuits involved in this process, and how social interactions during periods of abstinence can influence future relapse behavior.
