Mental Health as a Human Right Lecture and Panel

Michigan State University’s Mental Health Research Connect, in collaboration with NAMI Lansing, the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, will host a special event during Mental Illness Awareness Week on October 9. 

The event will feature Dr. Vikram Patel, a professor of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School, who will deliver a virtual keynote lecture titled “A Rights-Based Approach to Mental Health Care.”

The talk begins at 7PM with a panel discussion immediately following. Local organizations will be available beginning at 6:30PM and again after the program to share information about their efforts to enhance community participation and mental health.  A reception will be held from 8:30-9:30PM. 

The live panel discussion will include a peer support specialist, a psychiatrist, and community activists. They will share insights on how connection and belonging can serve as critical foundations for recovery from and prevention of mental health conditions.
