PSY Graduate Spotlight with Morgan Dodd

May 5, 2026 - Shelly DeJong

morgan-dodd-grad.jpgMeet Morgan Dodd, a recent psychology graduate. During his time at MSU, Morgan worked in Dr. Mark Becker’s research lab, participated in the Adolescent Diversion Program, worked as a Teaching Assistant, just to name a few. He found that by getting involved, MSU didn’t seem quite so big.  Here, Morgan shares about his favorite classes, what he’s learned as a Spartan, and what he wishes he had known during his first-year.

What was your favorite part of being an MSU Psychology student?

The diversity amongst the departments, my peers, and faculty research interests.

What groups, labs, or activities helped you find your place?

I found my community in everything I did at MSU. From research labs to athletic teams, there are people and places that contributed to my sense of home. When you begin to get involved, you realize that this school is not as big as it seems.

Tell us about your favorite PSY classes!

My favorite PSY class was definitely PSY 302 (Sensation and Perception), I took my sophomore year and TA’d for it twice. I believe it provides students with detailed insight into the interaction between their body and brain across all of the sensory systems.

Looking back at your time at MSU, what have you learned?

I have learned that putting yourself out there and pursuing every opportunity is equally important as your education. College is not confined to the classroom!

What do you wish you could go back and tell yourself as a freshman?

If I could go back in time, I'd tell myself to have big dreams but set small goals to get there.

Would you like to give a shout out to anyone who's kind of helped you in your journey?

I would like to give a huge shoutout to Dr. Mark Becker and the entire cognitive psychology department.

What’s next for you after graduation?

I am currently applying to post-grad positions and considering taking a vision research position in Iceland!

Anything else you’d like to add as you think about this time of closure/new beginnings?

I am honored to be a lifelong Spartan and am looking forward to what comes next!
