Name: Aislinn Low (she/her)
Hometown: Manchester, New Hampshire
Education background: University of New Hampshire 2022 - Honors Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Behavior & minor in Psychology
Tell us about your background/experience.
At the University of New Hampshire, I was a research assistant in the Personality Laboratory under the supervision of Dr. John Mayer. In this lab, I worked on projects investigating personality and personal intelligence with health goals and motivation, maladaptive personality traits, and risk-taking in interpersonal relationships.
After graduating, I worked in the Polimanti Lab in the Yale University School of Medicine under the supervision of Dr. Renato Polimanti. There, I recruited, collected data, and performed quality control measures for studies investigating the genetics of polysubstance use, internalizing disorders, and COVID-19. Additionally, I conducted an analysis on substance use disorders and antisocial personality disorder.
Why grad school?
Graduate school is where I'll be able to dive deeper into questions and topics that I'm passionate about, learn from and collaborate with experts in the field, and further develop the skills, experience, and expertise needed to pursue my goal of a career in academia.
What do you hope to research while you're here?
Broadly, I'm excited to continue to explore the influence and interactions of personality, motivation, and risk within close relationships.
Why are you interested in Social Personality Psychology?
No person exists in a social vacuum; thus, social personality psychology is both highly relevant and relatable. It's exciting to see how research and its implications within this area can lead to a real-world impact on how people live their lives within many different social domains.
In your free time, what do you like to do?
In my spare time, I like to read, exercise (mostly yoga and barre-inspired workouts), crochet (I started learning this year!), and go to an occasional concert!
