Meet Nancy Perkins, the new PSY Office Assistant

A headshot of Nancy Perkins Meet Nancy Perkins, the new face in the Department of Psychology’s main office! Nancy has been working at MSU for over 30 years—first being hired as a customer service representative in the Instructional Media Center. Since 2009, Nancy has been an Office Assistant IV in the School of Social Work. 

Read on to learn a bit more about Nancy—why she was interested in this job, what she likes to do outside of work, and what the best piece of advice she ever received is.  

 

 

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?  

I live in St. Johns and am married with two children. My oldest is married and he and his wife are expecting my first grandbaby in August!  

 

What are three words to describe yourself?  

The three best words I can think of to describe myself are helpful, approachable and kind. 

 

Why were you interested in this position?  

I was interested in the position because it’s very similar to what I currently do, which I really enjoy. I am looking forward to a new environment, meeting new people, and furthering my skills. My current job is 100% on site, so I am also looking forward to working a hybrid schedule. 

 

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?  

I love spending time with my family. I enjoy walking, biking and lifting weights. I also love to travel and explore vacation spots! 

 

What makes you proud to work in the College of Social Science?  

I’ve always appreciated the welcoming environment in the College and have enjoyed working with so many incredible people! I am happy to be able to continue to work in the College. 

  

Current book you're reading or tv/movie you're watching?  

I don’t read a lot of books, but love watching true crime TV. I love Dateline, 20/20 and 48 Hours. I also listen to a lot of podcasts. 

 

Best advice you ever received?  

Do the right thing, even when no one is looking! Also, treat people the way you wish to be treated. Kindness goes a long way!
