PSY Student Spotlight with Sahar Aghaei
January 17, 2025
Meet Sahar Aghaei, a second-year psychology major and a member of the Women’s Leadership Institute (WLI), a program at Michigan State University that was designed to support and empower women students with leadership aspirations.
Why do you study psychology?
I have always been fascinated by psychology, largely due to the influence of my aunt, who worked as a psychiatric nurse. Watching her help people regain their mental well-being and return to their everyday lives left a lasting impact on me. I love the transformative power of psychology – the belief that there’s always a way to grow and improve physically and mentally.
What interested you about WLI?
I believe the WLI educates, inspires, and empowers women with the core values, attitudes, and skills that are the foundation of quality leadership. This institute offers a unique opportunity for an enriching and transformative social and personal experience. I believe WLI will allow me to gain valuable insights from accomplished women leaders and actively participate in initiatives that promote social justice and gender equity. I am looking forward to bringing my unique perspective as a bicultural woman to the WLI.
What are your goals for the future?
After I graduate, my goal is to pursue a career in neuropsychology. I believe that the education I’m receiving at Michigan State University and my experiences at WLI will provide me with the knowledge and skills to achieve my dream of helping others with mental neurological disorders.
Is there anyone at MSU that has helped you along your college journey?
I want to thank the psychology advising department for helping me with classes and being there for me as well as all my professors for being excellent at teaching and bringing me new and exciting knowledge. I appreciate all your hard work!
The WLI’s mission is to ignite women leaders while their vision is to advance leadership equity for women globally. The program aims to create a sustainable community by providing high quality programming for MSU’s students, faculty, and community.
