PSY Alumna Spotlight with Brianna Lind

Brianna Lind graduated in May ‘22 with a psychology degree and a minor in Youth and Society. Working in several psychology labs as a student and post-bacc researcher helped Brianna figure out her path. Today, Brianna just completed her second year in a clinical psychology PhD program!

How do you use your PSY education today? 

I just completed my 2nd year in my Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program at Binghamton University (SUNY) in New York. 

 

What do you love about psychology still today?  

I love being able to answer questions with research and data. Help individuals with presenting problems. 

 

Tell us about where you found your community at MSU.  
I was a part of the Psychology Scholars program and several labs: Dr. Richard Lucas, Dr. Kelly Klump, and Dr. Jason Moser. All together helped me figure out the degree I wanted to pursue post undergrad and helped cultivate the skills I needed to get where I am. Specifically, it helped prepare me for my Ph.D. program. 

 

What were your favorite PSY classes and why?  

PSY 444 was my favorite class because of the in-depth examination of adolescents and really capturing the transition from childhood into adolescents and how puberty can play a role in youth mental health. 

 

Looking back at your time at MSU, what did you learn? 

I learned the importance of interdisciplinary work irrespective of the field you want to have expertise in. 

 

Would you like to give a shout out to anyone that's helped you in your journey?  

Dr. Jason Moser was a huge influence in my academic and professional journey that helped me get to where I am now. I was heavily involved in the lab across multiple projects as an undergraduate and post-bacc researcher. In addition, I received the first-generation student PURI award and received class credit in exchange for invaluable experience in the lab which I am very thankful for. 

 

What advice do you have for first-year students who are just starting their MSU journey? 

Get involved as much as possible. Undergrad is not just about academics, you should connect with others, join clubs, shadow people during the job you want one day, volunteer, etc. The connections you make and the experiences you have during this time shape you personally and professionally.
