Women’s Leadership Institute Student Spotlight with Kyla Voss
February 3, 2025 - Shelly DeJong
Meet Kyla Voss, a senior in the College of Social Science and the Honors College studying psychology and human capital and society, with a minor in leadership organizations, who is also dual enrolled in the Master of Human Resources and Labor Relations program. Kyla is also a member of the Women’s Leadership Institute (WLI), a program at Michigan State University that is designed to support and empower women students with leadership aspirations.
Why are you a psychology major?
I’m a psychology major because I love knowing what motivates people to do what they do on a day-to-day basis. I love learning how humans work in general because we are so complex! As someone dual enrolled in the Master of Human Resources and Labor Relations program, I’ve also found it helpful to understand and learn how organizations can best motivate people.
Tell us about your experience with WLI so far.
I wanted to join a community that could help me feel confident and give me the tools to stand out in the business world as a woman. And I have genuinely found that within WLI. The board members are extremely supportive, knowledgeable, and understanding to all WLI members, and it really feels like a safe space where young professionals can grow together. The workshops give us the tools to be more confident and clearer when sharing ideas. They help us understand and empower our individual strengths.
Want to give a shoutout to anyone
I would love to give a shoutout to Matt Hahnenberg and Rachael Zaborowski, my two advisors that have helped me along the way. They keep me on track and push me to new experiences!
Are you involved in anything else at MSU?
I'm also a part of the Psychology Club, which has been a great experience in helping me figure out what field I want to be in and opening my world to new volunteer experiences.
The WLI’s mission is to ignite women leaders while their vision is to advance leadership equity for women globally. The program aims to create a sustainable community by providing high quality programming for MSU’s students, faculty, and community.
