Mindy McLouth has been a friendly face in the MSU Psychology Clinic since 2005. As the office coordinator, she is often the first person that patients see when they come into the clinic. Mindy also handles the billing and scheduling for the clinic and assists the director. Read on to learn what Mindy’s favorite thing about her job is, what she likes to do outside of work, and more!
How long have you worked at MSU?
I started at MSU in March 1985. I worked in Plant Pathology for 13 years and Biochemistry for 6 years. I have been in the clinic since February 2005.
What are three words to describe yourself?
Dependable, calm, happy
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
Sportscaster or rockstar or both!
What is your favorite thing about your job?
Working with and getting to know the grad students.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Crafting, camping, reading, trying new restaurants, trivia games, taking care of stray cats.
What are you reading and/or watching currently?
I’m reading the Clan Lands Almanac, and I am watching Fargo and The Artful Dodger.
What makes you proud to work at the clinic?
Knowing that we are helping people that otherwise might not get help because they don’t have insurance that covers mental health. Also watching the students go from being “nervous nellies” when they start the program to a confident graduate at the end of the program.
Do you have any strategies for dealing with stress at work?
Hearing my dad’s voice saying, “Don’t stress over things you can’t control” and finding stuff to laugh about.
Who would you like to give a shoutout to?
Natalie Moser for being a great boss. Clinic Coordinators Kalei and Jessica for making my life easier especially when I was going through chemo!
What's a favorite memory from working at MSU?
Walking around campus in the spring/summer with Nancy Russell when everything is in bloom.
What's something that not many people know about you?
While working full time and raising three kids, I managed to go to college part-time and earn my associate degree when I was 40!
